Litecoin is Peer-to-Peer cryptocurrency based on an open source cryptographic protocol developed from the technical details from the bitcoin whitepaper released in 2008 by bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto. Litecoin is developed and released under the MIT/X11 license and distributed as an open source software product. The cryptocurrency was released on GitHub on October 7,2011 by its developer and former Google Employee Charlie Lee and it was lunch five days later. Lite coin emerged as a software update to Bitcoin core software causing a split during a fork agreed on among the members of the Bitcoin ecosystem. The main difference between bitcoin and litecoin are in the hashing algorithm, block generation time and the graphic user interfaces
